Estimated download time left 42 hours?

Post by kennyH »

Hello, I just began to install open office and in the file download box it says estimated time left 42 hours? Is that normal or is there something I need to do? Thanks

I don't know but the official site is http://www.openoffice.org. There are also mirror sites at http://distribution.openoffice.org/mirrors/#mirrors. I'm in North Carolina also and have never seen this issue. What is the name of the file you are downloading? Break the connection and try again.

The main site seems to be very slow right now. Try one of the mirror site.

Alternately try one of the P2P downloads. These are very effective with slow channels.

The beauty of bittorrent: Many simultaneous downloads do not increase download time. In many cases it's actually faster (due to the collaborative nature of BT).
Traditional downloads from server: Many simultaneous downloads means higher load on the server. As the load rises, the performance on each connection is eventually degraded.

I'm sure glad I'm not the only one to notice the huge download time for 3.2. When the stream finally settled down from 42 hours; it still told me 21 hours 10 minutes. I'm have a DSL connection and download games this size in 20 minutes. I did look at the mirror sites but I think I'll wait a while and try again. I live in southeast Wisconsin. Have others successfully downloaded the new version from the main site? How long did it take? BTW - what are the units for the BBC font sizes? MB

The main site seems to working OK now. I started a download and it immediately began downloading at over 400KB/Sec. Showed 2 minutes 20 seconds to download when I stopped it.
And Yes i have downloaded from this site many times and good speeds, a few minutes at most.

Cost me something like 30 minutes at most, I think even less, and I have a very average connection (ADSL).

There may be few errors in the site server unless that it should not take more than 5 minutes or there is slow server on your side. May be there is any one of reason listed above unless that there will be no slow transfer speed. You try other site or try after sometime so that your problem is solved.
