Apologies in advance if this is a FAQ (point me somewhere if so), but I've looked over the help, forums and searched as well, with only a couple of related hits, see below*.
Running OOo 3.1x on Vista
I'm not new to OOo as such, having used StarOffice back when StarDivision owned it, but I'm stumped on this: How can I permanently hide a standard toolbar(s) so it won't pop up when I click an associated object?
For example, I'm in Impress and have created a toolbar called "Default". It has everything on it I need, including font formatting buttons, etc. I can hide ALL the other toolbars and when I select text on a slide, the appropriate buttons on "Default" are enabled as expected. Trouble is, no matter what I do, the Text Formatting and Standard toolbars pop up as well. I've tried hiding them, removing all their buttons, etc., etc. (they can't be deleted, apparently), but nothing seems to help. I prefer to have one or two permanently-placed toolbars that neither disappear nor move, instead of having toolbars appear / disappear and screen elements jump around / resize every time I click something.
* I found this post almost two years ago where someone asked the same thing, but without a reply. I found this Wiki article that seems to describe something related (admin-level XML file editing), but I've not really digested it.
Am I overlooking something obvious?
Thanks!

Re: Customization Q: How to permanently hide toolbar(s)?
Try the instructions from this thread: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... =7&t=27076
I don't know if they will work for your case; I'm guessing that some of the toolbars are really not meant to be disabled.

Re: Customization Q: How to permanently hide toolbar(s)?
I would have never thought of that... The 'X' close button is temporary, but the menu choice is effectively permanent. So far, this seems to work exactly as I want. I manually displayed, then removed all the 'other' toolbars via the menu. If any popup in the future, I'll just remember to hide them from the menu.
Now to just figure out a way to hide the Task Pane in all but Slide Sorter view and I'll be all happy...
Thanks again.

You can close the panels but it's not permanent--they'll come back in your next session. Now to just figure out a way to hide the Task Pane in all but Slide Sorter view and I'll be all happy...
You can, however, resize them to zero-width, and that setting will be permanent. Just drag the inner edge of the panel to adjust the width.

Re: [Solved] Customization: How to permanently hide toolbar(s)?
Since that works equally across all views, I've compromised and narrowed down the task pane to its minimum "non-scrolling" width, which should be OK for all views. I think I can live with that.acknak wrote:You can close the panels but it's not permanent--they'll come back in your next session. The Standard and Formatting toolbars can't be closed permanently.

Re: [Solved] Customization: How to permanently hide toolbar(s)?
So far they've stayed closed for me through several app restarts, file reloads, etc. I made sure I closed them via the menu and not by using the 'X' button on the toolbar. Maybe I just didn't go through the exactly wrong steps, but I'm OK so far.Bill wrote:The Standard and Formatting toolbars can't be closed permanently.
