[Solved] Download returns error 404
[Solved] Download returns error 404
I would like to download open office but I run into a small problem...
http://download.services.openoffice.org ... deb.tar.gz
returns a 404 not found. :s
Could some light be shed upon this?
I prefer to download only from OO website (as apposed to a mirror).
Cheers in advance.

Re: Download returns error 404
Hi and welcome to the forum!
I heard that some mirrors have removed the version with JRE (because it always bundle an old version). Try to download the version without. Anyway, the bouncer use a mirrors when you click the download link of the main site I think.

Go to

click "I want to download openoffice.org"
CLick "download now!"
And see what happens...

Works perfectly for me

Re: [unSolved] Download returns error 404
I never download directly from the OOo website any more. The OOo website redirects to a random mirror somewhere in the world for downloading. That's almost guaranteed to take longer than downloading from a nearby reliable mirror site.SagnaB wrote:I prefer to download only from OO website (as apposed to a mirror).
Re: Download returns error 404
I often download from a local mirror. Google for "OpenOffice mirror YourCountry"

Why? You are going to download from one of the mirrors anyways. If you download from the OO.o website, it chooses on of the mirrors for you.I prefer to download only from OO website (as apposed to a mirror).
I did that and OO.o started to download, just like it is supposed do. Why did you ask me to do that?SagnaB wrote:Go to http://www.openoffice.org/

Re: Download returns error 404
Please don't take my criticism personally, as it wasn't directed at any volunteer on OOo community forum.
I also did not intend on the content of my post to be interpreted as a bad attitude either.
That aside, I took the advice from RoryOF and googled [OpenOffice mirror Australia] and found a planet mirror result:
http://download1.planetmirror.com/pub/o ... -US_deb.sh
returns 404
If no one else is having this problem, I have no idea what is going on. I need word processing etc for college in a week or so, and would really like to use OOo as I've used it before and found it excellent.
I'm starting to think that it is because I live in the state of South Australia, which has apparently implemented Internet censorship, and maybe Microsoft is paying our Premier Mike Rann (notorious for dictatorship behavior) to block downloads of OOo (would not be surprising)

If you routinely have download difficulties of this sort, you might consider using a BitTorrent client.
