[Solved] Default file save location

Post by jwm57 »

OOo Writer presents me with a folder location when I hit save or save as. I want to change that. First may I say that it chooses "XMyDocuments" which is a file I created on my C: drive when I partitioned and added a D: drive. I put "MyDocuments" D: drive to make my backups more efficent (I do have two physical drives, I'll not get into the reasons for separating them except that they have to do with defrag, etc.). The "XDoc" was a safety factor in case of misdirected paths in the Registry (Win XP). That is my problem, and I'll correct the Registry paths for general use.

I would like to instruct OOo Writer to use a separate file on the D: drive (Writer is resident on C: with other program files). My Documents, and my special XMy Documents can be a bit confusing to search through - I want a separate folder (on D:) for all things I write with OOo Writer. Easy enough to do, just refuse the default folder and go to the My Computer readout and select the D: drive, then the folder I set up there for OpenOffice documents. But I'd like to make it easier and have OOo Writer automatically assume the path to the D: drive and the special folder for OOo documents. Can I do that through the tools in OOo? I've looked through the help and the manual and can't find it.

In summary, I want to instruct OOo to use a specific path as default whenever I hit "open" or "save" or "save as" - and that is not the same path I'd want for other programs so it is not a matter of adjusting the Registry (unless it is a Regedit in the Registry segment for OOo Writer).

Best, Jon

You can set default Document folder under Tools>Options>OpenOffice.org>Path.

Thanks r4z, did it and it works. Tried the paths before, seemed logical, but didn't find the way. Your message set me to working it out, a few quarrels with M$ software and all is well.
