Hi all,
Just a simple question can a wps. file be opened using ''open office''. If so with which application. Thanks in advance for any replies, Hong27.

No. You will have to save it as a .doc or .xls file first. See this link for more info

I would recommend using the search tool... There are two, actually, one that appears under the topic title to search the current subforum, and one in the banner area that searches all of the forums. In this case you'd want the banner search box, because the answers could be found in the Writer forum, or General Discussion, or Beginners, or such. But the tools work very well to find information quickly. (Especially---or, I guess, mainly---in cases like this where the search term is very clear-cut. It's a lot harder when you don't know quite what terms to use.)
