[Issue] OpenOffice.org Calc sorting with graphics contents

Post by silvermine92 »

We are able to put graphics information into a spreadsheet cell, but even if the image is anchored to a cell, it is not sorting with it. For example, instead of putting down an airline name in a spreadsheet, I use the airline logo. However after sorting the spreadsheet, the logos will stay as were but not in their new position. I am comparing the action with Excel, and in the Mircrosoft environment things are working out fine. Is there a way attaching graphics data to a cell such that it will always stay with it?

In my opinion, the sort option sorts only the contents of the cells. But It not sorts the cells (the 'containers').
An image, anchored to a cell (to a 'container'), not becomes a cell content.
Example1:
The various background colors of cells will be sorted, because the background color is inside of cell.
Example2:
The picture is anchored to the 'A1'. If you sort the range A1:A9; after sorting the name of first cell not will be 'A9' or the name of last cell not will be 'A1'. The names of the cells remain unchanged: the picture remain anchored to the 'A1'

Understand the point, but the most important thing is, we need to make Calc work. Calc offers anchoring graphics in two options, either to the page or to the cell, and therefore if it is specified to go with the cell, it should move with it as well. In another perspective, if Calc is going to be compatible with Microsoft Excel (which I think is a priority goal otherwise it will be difficult to persuade people switching to OpenOffice), it must sort with the graphics as well otherwise there will be occasions that Excel worksheet will not work propely in the OpenOffice environment. This perhaps is more critical and worth some thoughts.

Thanks for the post. I was having the exact same problem and was getting upset that I couldn't figure out why graphics were staying put when sorting associated data. Hope this gets fixed.
