Normal Style appearing in Table of Contents

Post by Gary M »

I tried to create a Table of Contents and in addition to the Heading styles, I am getting some of the text that is in the Normal style.

This forum supports OpenOffice and related software, not Microsoft Office. Someone here might be able to help you but a Microsoft Office forum is more likely to be helpful.
OpenOffice 4.1 on Windows 10 and Linux Mint

Word does not distinguish between text styles and paragraph styles, so you can apply any style (also heading styles) to part of a paragraph. AFAIK (haven't tested), you still get entire paragraphs in the ToC. See if you have a stray space (leading/trailing) with heading style applied, or perhaps something else with odd formatting, in the "offending" paragraphs. Check what style you have there.
Edit: Just tried with Word 2016. I am unable to cause the problem by using a mashup of styles in a new document. Something else seems to be at play.
Take the advice from FJCC: ask in a Microsoft forum.
