OpenOffice 3.0 schedule?

Post by watson »

Hi

Beta 2 of OOo 3.0 was released on July 14th.

But is there an official release schedule? Does anybody know when we can expect the final stable version?

Hi Thomas and welcome to the forum!

You can find the release dates in the wiki.
Concerning OOo 3.0 Final, you find the date here.

Less than 4 weeks to go! :)

Are we SURE about this schedule? The release candidate is supposed to be released on September 1st but it was also supposed to be released on August 25th and, if I'm not mistaken, it was also supposed to be released on August 18th.

Since the dates on that site do have a habit of moving, slippage is normal in most industries, they're really little more than an indication.

From the past experience, we indeed have to reckon with a moderate delay.
I would expect to see the release until the end of September at the latest.

I would say between 2 and 3 weeks. As there is no RC yet, it won't be less than that I fear.

And the release candidate date has been moved again to September 8th. For some reason, I'm not holding my breath for that date either.

Better late than broken...
In fact, there seems to be some trouble with new features like the completely new cross-reference system:

(I have found this one... )

I think those are Beta 2 not RC1. The release candidate is a separate and later version than Beta 2.

PChuck,

The 3.0 RC1 is definitely out there, look in the "/contrib/rc/3.0.0rc1/" folder of any of the mirrors. The German mirrors seemed to have gotten it first, but some of the US and Canadian mirrors have it now as well.

Cheers,

Rock solid! Even the 64 bits build. It is nice to see OOo picking my kde theme!
Issue 92125 is still there, though: be careful if you use the new cross reference system!

All I can see are the lang packs.
Do you know where I can find the US version?
Thanks

Try another mirror, I've downloaded it this morning.
Look into /contrib/rc/3.0.0rc1/
NB: the only language packs are for en-US and the version is en-US, rather strange.

I see that RC1 now has a few problems logged against it. What are the chances that the official final release date will remain on schedule for this month? The reason I ask is because I'm holding off on releasing a new OS image build so I can include OO 3.0 if the final release comes out by the end of September.

Thanks....!

There seems to be a bunch of problems with RC1 already, according to:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wik ... nownissues

According to: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/OOoRelease30
- second release candidate for all languages: September 12th, 2008 ?
- Product release: September 24th, 2008 ?

Judging by the question marks, I can only assume that they are not confident about those dates and certainly could be subject to sliding back again. Personally, I don't think that the final 3.0 release will be out by the end of September. But certainly better late then broken.

RC 2 has been pushed back to 22nd September with the final product on the 30th September.

Keep your finger crossed as I expect the final product to be released in October instead...

RC2 is now on most mirrors now. RC2 is dated 20080920 and can be found in the 'contrib/rc/3.0.0rc2/' folder.

Just for the records: the language packs for rc1 work with rc2

Final has, tentatively, been pushed back to the 7th of october, with a new RC out at the end of this month.
Oh well, a delayed release is better than a buggy release.

I wish they would release a 2.5 with OOXML import and come up with a working 3.0 next year. From what I see in this forum, the current 3.0 will be too bad even if they fix the worst show stoppers.

http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... 367#p47367 (macros fail in a very strange way if the installation adopted 2.4 settings).
Spell checking is extremely important for many users. The new spell check infrastructure will flush thousands of threads into this forum, I'm afraid.

Not that sure. It will be much more easy to install the dics. But more difficult to tweak the configuration (especially on *NIX systems.

There is also the bug about the cross-reference (to headings) that may be a real show stopper. Don't know if it has been fixed yet.
