If your Mac has been upgraded to the latest version of OS X (El Capitan), does OpenOffice™ 4.1.1 still work okay? What, if any, problems have you encountered?
I am reluctant to upgrade to El Capitan for fear that it will cause OpenOffice™ applications to do bad things.

As you can see from my profile signature I use Mac OSX Lion and El Capitan smoothly.

I upgraded my desktop to El Capitan. Open Office Writer works okay.
At first, I experienced some display glitches with Page Preview. Somehow, they went away without a trace.
