I received a document from a library--a digital scan of a print. The image became pixilated when I printed it the actual size. I contacted the library, and they re-digitized the image for me.
Now, I have the image, but when I tried to email it, my computer said the image was too big.
How do I reduce the size so I can email the image for professional printing?

My preference in a situation like this is to upload the (large) file to a server somewhere and then email a link to the uploaded file. The recipient can then download the file from the server. There are many free file sharing sites available for doing this, although you probably have to register to use their service.

You can use an archive utility such as WinZip or WinRAR to compress the file, hopefully to a size that your email will take. It is useful to look up how archive utilities work if you are moving files from computer to computer. There is a limit to how much a file will compress, so it is possible that you may not be able to compress the file sufficiently, in which case you'll have to use Acknak's suggestion. Or stick the file on a USB key and go see the printer with it.Jud4u wrote:sorry--but I have no idea what you're talking about.

Without using 3rd-party software you also can click the files (or whole folder of files) with the right mouse button and choose: "send to"->"compressed (zipped) folder".
But the mentioned tools like Winzip, WinRar or 7-Zip might do a better compression with smaller file size as result.
If the files are still too big use somesort of filehosting service.
