Looking for Web-based odt editor

Post by mrh »

Hi

I'm looking for a browser editor that can handle the .odt format (Google Docs, former Writely). My search for one has not led to any result, therefore I turn to you guys here.

Any help appreciated !

Can I ask what you're doing that you want to edit local ODT files in a web browser? Why not just use a suitable local editor?

Google docs is working on offline access, is that what you're looking for?

sybille: Sure! I want to populate a template with xml-data (from a server), then be able to edit this document AND save the new document back to the server. In case a plugin for saving the content back to a database doesn't exist (maybe you guys could help?), I have thought of different solutions. The crux is actually saving the updated data back to the server, therefore I thought of extracting the content.xml from the file->Open it in a browser-based WYSIWYG XML-editor for editing >Print a PDF (XSL-FO) of the updated document and save the content to server. But let's say a lot of text is inserted in the XML-editor, how are new pages handled when creating a PDF?

Maybe you got completely diffrent solutions and thoughts about this?

Caracalla: Cool, never heard of that! Gonna try it out and let you know later.

I really appreciate the effort you made sybille! O3Spaces' product looks very interesting, I've just downloaded it and tried a few documents, you have saved me a lot of time. Gonna try out the ODF Wiki next week.

Once again...thank you.
