Is there any known issues with MS Office 2007 and Open office? Can both run at the same time on the same PC?

Yes, they can.
But beware of the OOXML file format, see here:
MS Office 2007 file format (docx, xslx, pptx, ppsx).
Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your
first post title (
edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

You need to do some reading around this forum and the OOo website, and some Googling. That's too big a topic to go into here.
But one starting point might be OOo is open source and free...
