Not surprising since the owner rarely does anything to maintain the site. I believe this has happened before.

Last time it occurred, it was also in December and it lasted one or two days IIRC. It would be a loss for all the code snippets that have not been cited here...

Since several weeks, it was spammers heaven there. Since several days oooforum is no more responsive.
It may have come to an end.

I know that someone had made a backup, especially the codes in the macro section. Maybe we should think about putting those topics in the forum. It would be discussed on the dev ML. Anyone with the skills to do such en masse upload?

I'd suggest to make a separate static section on the support part of the openoffice.org site, putting each complete thread on a single page. I have the files, I still need to clear out all forum functionality related code.

There are (was) a lot of very useful material on the other forum. It would be nice to save it.

Do you need help with that? Occasionally I have idle time at work (just waiting), so there is a chance that I could assist in the cleanup.

I just need to get sufficiently mad at myself to sort it out. I mostly need to get rid of all code that refers to the New topic and Reply buttons and stuff like that.

It may be worth waiting to see that we have the go ahead from ASF before spending a lot of time on it.

For the record, the discussion I've opened on the dev ML: http://www.mail-archive.com/dev@openoff ... 18792.html

It's not very clear yet if we can do that or not because of the license.

Can you tell when was the backup made?

oooforum.org has been incredibly slow in responding for at least two weeks at this point (sometimes you get a reply, sometimes it times out). I used it because the URL was easy to remember, guess I'll abandon it. I see all of my recent posts here. Glad to see that the forum hasn't completely disappeared.

Next question, I'm aware of two other sites besides oooforum.org (http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... mode=login and http://forum.openoffice.org) is one the preferred site? I note they are both at openoffice.org and wonder why both exist. Do these sites access a common data store or is one replicated to other locations?

They're the same: both take you to this forum.

The user.services name is older and was necessary (as I understand it) because of the network infrastructure at that time. Since that situation no longer exists, it was decided to change the name to something simpler and easier. Because there are still references to the old name, it was not removed but was configured to point to the same place as the new name. At some point, I imagine the old name will fade into the mist; it's best to avoid using it.

oooforum is back online. The strange thing is that post have been made during the past 2 months when it was hardly accessible.
Full of spam of course, there is nothing moderators could do there I fear...

Bots, I suppose. Nothing mods can do if they can't ban spammers but can only remove offending posts. And the bad accessibility caps it. A lost cause.

I thought it had been gone for a year and a half. Last time I checked must have been around the time of previous posts from floris_v & al, August 2014. At the time, it had been taken over by one of those bogus "search engine" sites. I never turned back...

On the few occasions I require content from it, I have been able to get that from the search engine cache.

Concerned that its content might be lost, negotiations were under way some time ago from the Apache OO project to assume responsibility for its content, but these came to nothing. I think there may be some fairly complete copies of its content in existence, but it is my understanding that distribution/availability of these is hampered by copyright concerns.
