I haven't read about the LGPL v2 vs v3, but when I saw the announcement, I was excited because I thought they would do away with the JCA. They did, but they replaced it with the SCA. I don't really have a problem with either the JCA or SCA, but Novell does have a problem with it (or at least, some of its employees), and that apparently is a big reason why libwps (the Microsoft Works text importer I mostly wrote) is not in the upstream OpenOffice.org.
