Speed optimation & better performance

Hey there!

Anyone has ever heard of some performance improvement project for the OO suite?

Our experience here with OO tells us that for a few thousands lines Calc is much more slower than Excel. Actually, I tried a few times to create a graph with a dataset of about 1000 elements and Calc was barely usable to handle that. The same task in Excel was fast and smooth.

Opening existing Calc sheet is not very fast too.

So, I couldn't tell that OO doesn't work for us, but there is definitely lot of room for improvement on the performance side.

We are using Windows version (2.3.1) on Dual and Quad machines with 2G or 4G of RAM.

Any information that the community has about this topic would be appreciated.

Perfomance improvements is not a separate project since it affects many different modules. It's an ongoing process. For instance: http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/per ... _factor_15

Not related to graphs, but a quite common problem you can avoid by yourself:
Insert a row: >60s for Ooo, <1s for Excel
