Different people, different places, different times

Post by Dastardly »

I have pored over the previously sent rota requirements but can't find an answer to my conundrum.
I have a list of people, a list of addresses and a list of time slots.
Each person has given the place they can attend and at what times.
I would like to be able to visualise who can be where and at what times. It could of course be that more that person can be in the same place at the same time which is also what I want to know.
Is this realistic ?
I have been able to pinpoint a person and a place and time but unable to work out how to see which people can be in the same place at the same time.
E.g.

Code: Select all

                  slot1 slot2 slot3
site1 BABB, CABB BABB, DABB DABB, FABB
site2 CABB, DABB FABB BABB, FABB
site3 MABB, NABB CABB, FABB NABB
I hope this makes sense.

Welcome to the Forums.
This can be done, however the level of complexity in doing it will be related as to the application you wish to use
My suggestions are Calc or Base.
No matter which is chosen, there are difficulties to address.
For one thing, you state " It could of course be that more that person can be in the same place at the same time", which, at the moment, and to the best of my knowledge, something that can only be done in science fiction.... and even there the writers' don't like doing it.
Thus, from a real world perspective, it is impossible for someone to be in multiple locations at the same time.

Ah, I think I may have misled you. What I mean is - a particular site may need one or more persons at the same time.
Like - Mr. Smith and Mrs. Jones can work at the school for (time) slot1 through slot4.
Not - Mr. Smith is needed at site1 and site 2 for slot1.

Please check what is the rendering of your post. I've edited it so that the table is readable.

There may be workarounds but I think that a dedicated application like those used by schools to create the week schedule would be more appropriate.

Do a search on schedule rota for lots of commercial packages some of which offer free trials.

See How to Create a Basic Excel Shift Rota. Can you create that in Calc?

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.
