New Java 16-1 Not Recognised by OO 4.1.9

Post by kingfisher »

Hello. I recently updated Java to version 16-1. OpenOffice 4.1.9 did not recognise the new version and I had to revert to the previous version. Oracle may have provided a solution for 'old' software.

Has anyone else encountered the problem and how have you dealt with it?

From what I read on Oracle's site (it took me a while to find it), it appears that Java 16 is a 64 bit version.
To the best of my knowledge, OpenOffice still requires a 32 bit version of Java.

My Hint:

Install the LibreOffice. It has 64 bit version, and the Java dependency of the LibreOffice was decreased by the developers. I am using the LO x64 without any Java JRE. (Maybe some wizzards or maybe the Base application requires JRE.)
