Arithmetic like Algebra, Calculus and Geometry is a subcategory of the generalized term Math.

Math is a module in OpenOffice, with it you can write mathematical formulas that are too complex to write in Writer. It doesn't calculate anything. The formulas are inserted in a Writer document as if they were pictures.

Arithmetic is sums - adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing
Math is more complex - abstract ideas - geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and on to set theory, multi dimensional universes, etc.
Eventually, Math boils down to arithmetic, to calculate the actual values the theories suggest.

When looking for the difference between two terms put "vs" between the two terms in a Google search. In this case search for math vs arithmetic.
