I just downloaded the extension upgrade for the Dictionary extension. However, when I tried to install it I couldn't find any dialogue, or any advice in the Help file. Can someone please clarify for me how to install it, after I've downloaded it?

Look in your download directory. If the file dict-en is of type .zip, rename it to .oxt. If it is already .oxt, double click on it and OpenOffice will take over and install it. The install screens are straightforward.

The reason for checking if the downloaded file has a .zip extension is that Internet Explorer (used by Microsoft) often silently renames OpenOffice extensions (type .oxt) to type .zip. It is possible to install a ,zip type extension, but it is more straightforward if it has its correct filetype (.oxt). OpenOffice knows how to install those when they are double clicked.

I seem to have a similar problem , but clicking on the dic-en-2.oxt, comes back with the message dict-en.oxt does not exist. It tries to install dic-en-2.oxt but fails and Open Office then hangs. Any suggestions?

I think I ran into this before; the solution was simple. Outside of OpenOffice, at system level, rename dic-en-2.oxt to dict-en.oxt and then double click on that.

Thanks for the help. If only it was that easy. I have tried the rename and now get "extension manager not responding".

Just reminds me of why I avoid upgrades like the plague.
