Downloaded a bunch of clip art extensions, cannot find
I downloaded a bunch of clip art extensions and they claim to be in svg format. where can I locate these files on my computer? they are not in the extensions folder!

They may be in your Download directory.

Where is the download directory in OpenOffice?

I browsed all sub folders of the OpenOffice directory there is no download directory!

The download directory is not part of OpenOffice, it is a function how you have your system set up. If you download a file, where would it normally be?

If they are delivered as extensions (.oxt), you've to install them with the extension manager (AOO menu Tools>Extension manager and Add button).
Note that Internet Explorer may have renamed the file .zip instead of .oxt. In such case, rename it back to .oxt before launching the extension manager.
Please add '[Solved]' at the beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

they were delivered as an extension, installed into AOO, but the images within those extensions has to be somewhere

They are several folders linked to extensions. Have you checked in the profile? ...OpenOffice\4\user\uno_packages\cache\uno_packages
