PDF importer

Post by utilitytk »

Call me computer stupid but, I just downloaded OpenOffice 3.4.1 then downloaded the PDF Importer extension. Everything went fine. I glanced at the 300+ page manual looking for info on how to use this extension. I saw that in "Drawing" I should be getting an import pdf command under file, open. If this is correct, I'm not getting this. How do I use this program? What am I not doing or doing wrong?

Just do File > Open and choose your pdf file.

Be advised: OOo + pdf import does not quite give you a pdf-editing setup. Many people are looking for that and find it less than satisfactory.

But is there any possibility to edit the pdf file with this extension?

One can make minor cosmetic changes to small pdf files, but if you wish to undertake a major redesign of a file you should look for a specialised pdf editor.

PDF is not a format intended for edition. It's a digital print. To edit such format, you need commercial application, Adobe's solution being the best I guess since they know perfectly well this format.

Else, ask the author his source file.

I think there are one or two freeware/shareware pdf editors; on the few occasions I needed to edit pdf text where i had not the source file I Copied from the pdf file and Pasted into OpenOffice. However, it can happen that PDF files are generated to disallow Copying and Printing, so if copying doesn't work that may be the cause.

PDF Import Extension

Post by kochi97 »

Hi,
I already downloaded PDF Importer Extension into my Open Office 3.2 software. And I can now open pdf files using Draw. And I installed a hyperlink into the pdf and then saved and exported that edited pdf. And I can see my edited element inside the new PDF.

But the situation at present is that I am interested to edit links inside the pdf with my own links. The existing links are in Anchor Text. But I dont know how to edit these type of links inside the Draw editor of Open Office.

I would appreciate very much if you could let me know how I can do that.

Thanks
Kamrul

OOo is not designed to be used as a pdf editor, and I have to wonder what the purpose would be in changing links in a published pdf anyway.

The best course is to get the source of the pdf and modify that and generate a new pdf with the corrected links.

Or, as an alternative to acknak's suggestion, get a full featured pdf editor. I think there are some shareware/freeware ones, but have no specific knowledge.
