XML Flat Filters

Post by phthenry »

Now and then, a user wants to save an OpenOffice document as a flat XML file, rather than the normal zipped file. If you run linux, you probably already have the flat file filters added. Otherwise, add them in this manner:

1. Download the flat filters I have included.

2. Unzip the files.

3. Open Open Office and go the tools menu, then the XML Filter Settings.

4. Click on the Open Filters button on the right.

5. Navigate to the filters folder you unzipped in step 1. Now open the first jar file.

6. Repeat step 5 for each jar file.

You now have added the filters. To use them, choose the flat options when you save the file. For example, choose Save As from the file menu; then as your file extension, choose OpenDocument Text (Flat XML) (.fodt). To open a flat file, just choose the file from the Open menu, and Open Office should apply the filter and load your document
