Hello, just wondering if Open Office is compatible with the relational database management

As much as I have seen on their site, it is likely that it would work (importing data from any db supported by Office Base).

The answer you are looking for is not on this forum. If you need this type of rdbms, you should be looking for professional db admins and programmers help.
It is obvious that you didn't even start with serious system building and that you are in the process of collecting ideas and ways to do it. My suggestion would be, start with some open source system, make it running and then see what you really need. One of solutions is using SAAS for start. Some good points are Tryton and Open erp.

Contact some local companies, talk to the people, define your needs and go for solution. This is just a task to do. It is a big one, but it's not your core bussiness so do it fast.
