Creating a Data Source within OpenOffice.org

Post by xrmakridimitris »

I am on the third step of trying to use Microsoft Access databases from within OpenOffice.org 3.2. I΄ ve made an ODBC data source from MS-Access database and I saw the ODBC data source I΄ve made in the dialogue box "ODBC Source Administrator"
Where can I find the dialogue box "Data Source Administration" so as to open it and create a Data source within OOo ? (I have the 3.2 edition of OpenOffice).
Thanks a lot.

It sounds like you're trying to "connect" to an Access database. Once you've set up the connection you should be able to open it under "File Open". The "Properties" of the connection are viewable also. HTH

Thanks for your reply. I have done that but it does not display either the "forms" or the "reports" or "questions" I have made in MS-Access. It shows up only the "tables".

When you connect Access to some foreign database you get only data as well. This is how databases use to work. OOo can not "open" mdb files. It queries some Microsoft driver for the stored data so you can use the same data with some different set of tools. If you want Access tools then use Access.

That's right. That's what you get.

See [Tutorial] MS Access and Base.

Thanks a lot! But, I read the attached file and I went up to the third step. That one with the red letters, if you read the attachment. That was the one (box) I could΄nt find.

Since version 2 the Base document wraps all the configuration, forms, reports and queries.
