Field names show instead of values

i have registered my spreadsheet as a database but the field assignments that i selected "first name" etc are not what shows up in the label wizard for inclusion in the inscription. Instead i get my original column names

<Addresses2.mailing list.0.name>
<Addresses2.mailing list.0.address>
<Addresses2.mailing list.0.city state zip>

when i create the new file, every label has those filed names but nothing happens when i click on "synchronize labels"

when i print i get
name
address
city state zip

on every label

In your merge document click View-->Field Names to toggle it off.
