Style and formatting issues

I'm trying some hobbyist typesetting for a bookbinding project. In the "styles and formatting" dialog box, I can see that all my even numbered pages are shown as a "left page" template, and my odd numbered pages are a "right page" template. This is exactly like I want it.

I was hoping I could pick out an individual page in the book, and change it from a "right page" style to another custom style with different header/footer characteristics. I can't get it to work.

Am I hoping for more than LibreOffice is capable of?

Further, if someone could suggest a good tutorial on page styles and formatting, I'd be much obliged.

Background:
Selecting a particular page style in OpenOffice and its "offspring" (of which LibreOffice is one), is only available when forcing a new paragraph to start on a new page.

Howto, briefly:

• First, define the page style you want to change to in the "styles and formatting" toolbox. Consider whether it is useful to set "next page" in that style to use the running left or right page style you are currently using.
• For running text without structural breaks (headings etc.), insert a manual page break by menu selection, and pick the page style you just created.
• If you want a particular class of page (e.g. starting page of every new chapter) to use that page style, you can see the "text flow" tab of the "Heading x" (or some other) paragraph style, where you find "insert break" and "with page style".

As mentioned above, this is just a brief description of how things work. Feel free to post again if you need more detailed help.
