Footnotes in 2 columns

is there a way to make the text in a single collumn, and footnotes in 2 collomns [as in word 2013+]. or text in double collumn, and footnotes starting equal. thanks
openoffice 4.1.2 windows 10

Certainly no easy way; my memory says that this is probably not possible.

I believe Rory is correct. You can fake it using using something like superscripted numbers in the main text and a 2-column table in the footer if you are only doing one or two pages of main-body text.

A latex-based system such as LyX can do either and very likely both in the same document though I have never tried it.

After a quick experiment I cannot see any way - certainly not an easy way (and no way occurs to me) - to insert footnotes in columns for uncolumned text. If the text is set in columns, then the footnotes are applied to the columns.

I think my fake it approach is the only way.

Attached are a couple of pdf's showing a couple of LyX footnoting styles. I thought I had a 2-column text, single-column footnote pdf as well but I don't see it at the moment.
