Misaligned images
Misaligned images
I have a number of photos in an OO Writer document. I have sized them for 4"x 6" printing. The print preview and, indeed, the prints show only a segment of certain photos. What to do?
OpenOffice 4.1.3 on Windows 10
Re: misaligned images
Check if the issue is related to the AOO version, or others...
Try it with an another office suite, for example with the LibreOffice (portable or permanently installed version). If it not work with the file, then create a new similar document with the LibreOffice. If it not work, then the issue related to the printer driver or the operating system.
Or maybe you must adjust the Memory settings of the Apache OpenOffice/LibreOffice. How many pictures and what byte size of the picture had you embedded into the document?
Tools - Options - Open/LibreOffice - Memory. Increase the memory of the graphic cache, used to the handle of the pictures.
And always optimize your pictures (byte size, physical size, color depth) before you embed them into a Writer document.

Re: misaligned images
As a workaround, you may want to try exporting to pdf and then printing from that (assuming the pdf looks ok).

Re: Misaligned images
Thank you. I can't use the workaround because I want to print the photos on 4x6 photo stock in a simple way, i.e.- by merely clicking Print for each one. It's a shame that I have to move the photos to another application. Can file size cause this? Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Misaligned images
Most printers these days seem to come with some sort of 'photo printing' software that allows you to print images on photo paper - is there any reason not to do that?

Re: Misaligned images
Most likely a memory usage issue. Did you try Zizi64's suggestion?
Shot in the dark:
Wordprocessors are centered on text based documents. Using "print selection only" should logically print the selected photo, but Writer may be "mistracking" in this case, printing only the part of the image where it covers space for a text line.
What happens if you use the "Pages" option in the print dialog instead of "Selection"?

Re: Misaligned images
Can you upload a file with the problem. You probably need to use a fileshare site as the maximum here is 128kB.
One thing to try. File > New > Text document. Insert > File ..., and insert the problematic file. Save the new file. Is it OK? This often removes "tangles" and redundant XML code from the file and fixes strange problems.
For those browsing, see [Tutorial] Some useful hints on using images for a discussion on how best to handle images in Writer.
