[Solved] OpenOffice 4 Writer does not insert blank page

Post by larryslater »

Hello Friends;

I've run into a brick wall with this one. :crazy:

It seems most questions in this forum relate to deleting unwanted blank pages that are automatically inserted into a document. I have just the opposite problem of not getting Writer to automatically insert blank pages before new chapter pages.

More specifically...

When a Right Page style proceeds a new chapter break (First Page) and there is no content for a Left Page, a new blank page should automatically be inserted before the First Page. It does not.

First Page is a non-header page called with the Header 1 style set up using:

Text Flow: Breaks --> Insert-->Type(Page) --> Position(Before) / With Page Style --> Type(First Page).

The next style after the First Page is Left Page.

I have utilized the Left Page/Right Page styles with each calling the opposite page style with Page Layout being Only Left or Right.

Page numbering shows that it is "seeing" the blank pages being inserted but when I try printing the document into PDF the blank pages are not viewed.

I have checked the Writer-Print option of Print automatically inserted blank pages.

I know that sometimes I just do a "boner" move and can't see what is right in front of my eyes; being a bit blurry. This may be such a move.

If any of your wiser people can advise me I would greatly appreciate it. :super:

Larry

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Can you upload a sample file (see How to attach a document here)?

It does when you select the "ope" icon (double page icon to the right on status bar).
You may also need to check the setting on the PDF generator to "insert blank pages" for them to show in your PDF

This is fantastic! Thank you very much for all your help!

I've put up enlarged captures to help others to see this better.

OPE button. Well, that is selected on mine, but no joy. No blank.

Can you upload a sample file (see How to attach a document here)? There are tricks to replace the actual text by dummy text if needed.

Yeah, well. I went into Styles and deleted the command to insert the page before (unchecked the box). Then I just Ctrl Enter manually. I still tend to get that error on save sometimes even though I went in to edit the Macros / Standard and deleted the Macro in the template. So without a Macro in there I cannot begin to imagine what the hang-up is. A developer needs to fix that one of these years. I saved it as a Template and it worked. Then I did a Save As... and saved it over the original file name. What an unusual amount of gymnastics for a document!
