Hyperlinks with/in the same document.

Post by Bakshara »

In my Argumentative essay about Global Warming

The Hyperlinks work.

Here are some examples:
April 28th, 1975 Newsweek
When I control-click it inks to:
Bedolido "The Cooling World - Global Cooling" Newsweek 28 April 1975. 9 November 2007 <http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1310991/posts>

Professor William M. Gray of Colorado State University
When I control-click it inks to:
Professor Gray, William M "Viewpoint: Get off warming bandwagon" Colorado State University 16 November 2000. 9 November 2007 <http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/sci ... 023334.stm>

In my new essay about persuasion they do not work.

Here are some examples:
When I highlight "Palin, Sarah" and click on Insert, Hyperlinks it brings up the dialog box
The option: Document has:
Target document
Target [PalinSarah]
URL #PalinSarah
Futher settings
Frame [ ] From [Text]
Text [PalinSarah]
Name [ ]
Then [Apply] [Close] [Help] and [Back] buttons.

When I click on Apply the link at the top turns blue an is underlined.
When I control-click it does nothing.

I am still working on properly formatting the Front Range Community College link.

P. Kim "Front Range Community College in Westminster", in the Literature class Kim assigned all of the students to write an argumentative essay on any topic of our choosing. I chose to do on argumentative essay on "Global Warming."

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Can you upload a sample file (see How to attach a document here)?

When you have selected Link type: Document at the left of that dialog window, you can only create links within the same document. If you need a link to remote content, that is pages out on the Internet, then you have to select Link type: Internet, and you need to copy/paste the web address (URL) from your browser.

It is SaraPalin.doc.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask me if you would like to see the GlobalWarmingTruth_Bolser.doc* where my hyperlinks work.

* Kim gave me an A- because she could not figure out if it was an augmentative essay against "Global Warming" or "Al Gore."

You've to give a correct url, or the address of a bookmark inside the document. Since there is no such bookmark, I guess that it should be a web url. So you've to correct it. Perhaps you've pasted only the end of the url only.

Please add '[Solved]' at the beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Notice the headline of the thread, "Hyperlinks with/in the same document."
I would like to know how to link into references with in the same document. NOT some website.
There is the whole document with all of the references I would like to link to those references at the bottom.

You have to set up bookmarks inside your document so that you can hyperlink to them.

Okay,
Here is some more information that I will hope helps:
SaraPalin.doc
I highlight "SaraPalin" and then go to Insert, Hyperlink.
In the Hyperlink dialog box I select the Document icon.
There is:
Target in document
Target [PalinSarah]
Below that it has:
URL #PalinSarah
When I click on [Apply]

PalinSarah becomes underlined and turns blue.
has a message, [Ctrl-click to open hyperlink: #PalinSarah]

At the top is:
Sarah Palin underlined and blue.
Same message, [Ctrl-click to open hyperlink: #PalinSarah]

Now when I Ctrl-click on Sarah Palin, it does no do any thing.

How did you get [PalinSarah] in the Target box? Did you have a bookmark by that name that was later removed? If so, you need to put the bookmark back in the document at the appropriate place.

If I remove the hyperlinks, then highlight "Sara Palin" and select Insert > Hyperlink, there is nothing in the Target box in the Hyperlink dialog. Clicking the target icon next to the Target box, there is no target labeled [PalinSarah] that can be selected.

As said by RoryOF, don't use hyperlinks, they are too much static: if you change something it won't update. Use bookmarks (or cross-reference), they are dynamic, can be cross-referenced and reflect the change you may do afterward.

Okay,
I removed the Hyprerlinks. Both at the top and the bottom.
Now at the top I highlight, "Palin Sarah" and Insert, Hyprerlink.
Then in the Hyprerlink dialog box under the Document icon, I, or the right, click on the "Target in Document."
With that I get the "Target in Document" dialog box. I click on the "+" to Bookmarks."
All I see is: stand-first, howclean, Newsweek, and TheColorofMoney.
I do not see "PalinSarah."

That is inside the refence block:

You don't see "PalinSarah" under Bookmarks because there is no "PalinSarah" bookmark. You have to insert the bookmark before you insert the hyperlink.
