[Solved] Rotate text box

Post by 1richard »

I have a need to make a text box, add text, then rotate 90 degrees, print it , then rotate it back for the next change, I have been trying for several days, and cannot get it to do what I need. Can anyone help me in this problem??? Thanks Richard

The menu item you need is Position and Size..., which oddly is missing from Writer menus. It's still in the context menu for text boxes, though, so just right click on the text box and select that, then the Rotation tab. (Or you can use the circle arrow icon on the toolbar for Drawing Object Properties if you want to rotate by hand.)

You don't need to rotate back to enter more text, BTW. Just double click the text box, and while it's in edit mode it has an orientation that facilitates editing.

I don't believe you can rotate text in what OOo calls a “text box” EDIT: Yes you can see below.END EDIT
but you can within one of OOo's frames (Insert > Frame). Select the text, right click, select Character and then the Position tab.

It may have something to do with the version of OpenOffice you are using.

I can rotate a text box freely. Frames can be rotated to 90 and 270 degrees, and nothing in between.

As I found when testing frames, behaviour with line breaks on rotated text is unusual, to say the least. (At least when using OOo version 2.4.0) Text boxes are more predictable in that respect.

See the attached file, which has a text box and a frame, both rotated.

keme,

Now I see how you rotate the text box. I was selecting the text within the text box instead of just selecting the text box itself.

Will edit my previous post.
