[Solved] Chapter Reference in Captions

Post by smccurdy »

Hi,

I have a document (oo 2.3, win XP ) set up as:

Chapter 1: Introduction [heading 1]
Chapter 2: Methods and Materials [heading 1]
...
Chapter 5: Results [heading 1]
Appendix A: Technical Drawings [custom style]

I want the captions for the images and tables under Appendix A to read "Figure A.1: blah" currently they read "Figure 5.1: blah". How to I tell oo that the custom style is the chapter number (ie A) and not the title with heading 1 (ie Chapter 5)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

You should use for example Outline level 9 or 10 for your appendixes. At that point, you should have the numbers for figures in the appendix take over the number level of the Appendix.

Some more detail for your case: Tools - Outline Numbering, Number: A; show sublevels: 1, Separator before: "Appendix ".

Now insert the number range: Ctrl+F2, Variables tab, Number range, Level: 9.

Note that afterwards, you can modify the Content 9 and Content 10 paragraph styles to make them appear like other level styles in the TOC (more aesthetic than sub-levels of Heading 8).

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Thank you very much. I've found another work around that isn't pretty but gets the work done.

Cheers.

Perhaps you can tell what you've done, it may be useful to other users in the future. Or trigger a better idea.
