Hyperlinks in PDF - opening in new window

I am working on a report. I have put in the hyperlinks in odt to open in a new window. However when I export to PDF and upload to my website the links open in the same window. I've used the PDF export in the past and not had any problems, it may have been an older version or something.

Any help greatly appreciated. I don't really want my visitors to have to use the back button all the time.

I have the same issue. I did not use the "Export as PDF" option until recently because, if I remember correctly, older versions of OO didn't provide hyperlinking from after exporting to PDF. I just recently created a 13 page document knowing that the hyperlinks would work after exporting to PDF but I also don't want my readers to have to backspace and wait for my 13 page PDF to reload. Let me know if you get any help please.

Not sure if this can be fixed in OOo or it is a problem dependent on the behavior of PDF Reader.

I produced a PDF file including link target as _blank by means of a way other than OOo. The linked page was not opened in new window / tab as it was in the original file.

I can insert hyperlinks into my sxw text files; they work well...will open a new page when clicked on from within the original sxw document. HOWEVER, when I export my sxw file to a pdf file, the hyperlinks don't work in the pdf version. This is a real problem since I'm now a (volunteer) newsletter editor for a nonprofit and would like to give my readers the opportunity to follow up for more info via hyperlinks. It's also an urgent problem because I just finished the issue, it has to be distributed (in pdf form) in the next couple of days, and it's loaded with hyperlinks that don't work in pdf. I distribute the newsletter in pdf because pdf seems to maintain the integrity of the layout, etc.; if anyone has a suggestion for sending around the newsletter in another format, I'd welcome it (especially if I can't get the hyperlinks to function in the pdf version).

You need an upgrade: Hyperlinks on pdf export was introduced on OOo 2. Current OOo version is 3.1.1

That did the trick! I sent the newsletter sxw file to a friend who is set up with OOo 2.0, had it exported to pdf, sent back to me, and the links work I'll upgrade asap. RGB: Thanks so very, very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Advise your friend to upgrade too. The 2.0 builds I've used had serious stability and file integrity issues, so with sloppier backup routines I would have lost a lot of my work at the time. (I actually downgraded to version 1.1.5 for a while, until a new stable version was available.)

Any Windows version from NT4 and up should run OOo 3.x
For earlier Windows versions (95/98/ME/NT3), version 2.4.3 is probably the best choice.
You should be able to find a suitable version on the p2p downloads page
For peer-to-peer (or "p2p") download you'll need some file sharing client software and a network that allows p2p connections.

The current version is 3.1.1: as the release of 3.2 is pushed to sometime in January, it is probably worh upgrading to 3.1.1 now and geting its facilities, rather than waiting for the later upgrade.

Hi I have OpenOffice.org 3.4.1 but still seem to get weblinks from a web pdf opening in the same window and there seems no way to edit odt so there is an option of opening weblinks that are created in a PDF opening in a separate window. So what is the latest version of openoffice where I can create a PDF and get weblinks opening in a separate window?

PS another annoying thing is that when I create a hyperlink within an odt and export it to PDF, it will open at exactly the paragraph that I bookmark it to, yet when I upload that same pdf as a webpage, the hyperlinks only open at the top of the page where the topic is as opposed to the precise paragraph that they do when opened on my PC??

I downloaded the most recent version of OO today. I still have the same problem. So that did not fix the issue for me.

I just downloaded Open Office to solve hyperlink problems I had when creating pdfs in Word. With Open Office the hyperlinks in my pdfs work in a browser - yay! Now I'm trying to get them to open in a new tab/window, as mentioned previously in this thread. I've chosen the frame '_blank' in the drop down menu, but the links still open in the same window. I'm using OO 4.1 on Mac 10.7.5. Is this a known bug, or is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is there some way to insert HTML code at the end of the URL in the hyperlink target line to make it open in a new tab? Thanks!
