It seems that I could create my desired default style.
The next is how to change the default font?
I tried. But I could not make changes.
Thank you.

If you are able to change the default template, modify the template file by changing either settings in /Tools /Options /OpenOffice : Fonts or by using /Format /Styles and Formatting. pressing the first icon from the left to select Paragraph Style and modifying the Font selection for each Style by right clicking on it and choosing Modify. You then need to Save the modified template as the Default template, as you did before.

I do not know how to change my default template. I am using OO 4.1.2 on several Windows 10 machines and one Windows 7 machine.

Every time I create a new document, I get tons of worthless styles which I will never use. If I open an existing document, which has my styles (based on APA), then delete all and enter my new content, I see all those tons of useless styles, but my styles exist under "Custom." If I create a new document, I do not have Custom as an option.

I would love to get rid of all the unusable (to me) junk, and just keep my Custom styles. Since that seems to be impossible, just having the Custom styles available would work, now that I've figured out how to select them.

So, how do I modify my default template such that it has the styles I use?

Are you by chance saving your documents in a format other than .odt?

Tip 1.:
You can display the used styles only in the 'Styles and Formatting' function. Select the 'Applied styles' from the listbox at the bottom of the 'Styles and Formatting' panel.

Tip 2.:
You can delete the user defined styles only. You can not delete the default styles, but you can hide them from the actual view (list). (Sorry, I do not know how to unhide them...)
