Read Only
When I open files previously created and saved in MS Word, "(read only)" appears in the file name. In each case, the .doc file was NOT saved with the property, read only, and that does not appear in the properties of the file. When I attempt to use the "Edit File" icon, I still cannot edit the document. If I click "Edit File" again, Open Office crashes. I have uninstalled Open Office , downloaded and installed the newest version, 4.1.2. Is there some general setting that I'm missing or another way of removing the "read only" file property so thatbI can edit my previously created .doc files?

Are these files email attachments?

Re: Read Only
Problem files are not email attachments. They are simple, MS Word .doc word processor documents.

Is there a message when you try to open the files? Do the security settings of the files allow you to edit the files?

Re: Read Only
Is the file still open in Word (window still open, or saved file on removable storage which was disconnected before Word was closed)?

Re: Read Only
I think that I remember several topics about that, especially with Windows 10.
Were the files on another location once (external HD or USB key)? See if that helps: [Solved] Windows 10 and 4.1.1 compatibility.
