Novice: 2 Page Per Sheet Printing

Post by eransom »

Hello,

I'm trying to make the move over from MS but I'm hung up by a template created for me years ago by a co-worker (attached, MS Template). It's very simple but since I am a novice I'm not sure how to fix the issue.

The aims that the template fulfills:
2 pages per 8.5x11" sheet of paper, each page requiring 1/2 of the sheet in landscape
Working header with page numbers

I opened the MS Template in OO, creating an OO template from the resulting document (Attached, OO Template).

It is an MS 2000 (?) template; when using it I select in the print window the option to print 2 pages per sheet and it works like a charm.

In OO when I print I either get a strange looking result. You can see examples of what I'm describing in the PDF here. Here's the table of contents:
Page 1: An example of what I'm hoping to get (generated by printing from MS).
Pages 2-3: What I get from OO if I print 2 pages
Page 4: What I get from OO if I go to the Print Layout tab and tell it to print 2 pages per sheet.

I'm sure this is a super simple fix but, as I mentioned, I'm a novice. Any help would be appreciated - I'd like to unteather from MS if possible. :)

in /File /Print select the Page Layout tab and check the Brochure checkbox.

Thank you for the quick answer.

When I tried that option this is the result I got.

I thought I would try the brochure print with a document created with the normal/default OO template and this is the result. On that one, as you can see, gives a pretty inefficient return in terms of amount of space used on the printed page.

Any other possible solutions?

Your paper setting was wrong. On /File /Print, on the General tab press Properties button and ob its Paper tab set Orientation to Landscape, Duplex = On, Binding edge Left.

Thanks for the help. Just to be clear (that I've compiled your two answers correctly) my steps should be (working with the OO Template file I uploaded):

General Tab
Orientation: Landscape
Duplex: On
Binding Edge: Left

Page Layout Tab
Brochure: Selected

Is that correct?

That seems to be correct. It is always best to try a sample print of a four page document when working to print a brochure or signatures from a book.

It looks like you are printing a scan (or a PDF) of a two page spread. Just insert this on a landscape page - /Format/Page : Page tab , Landscape, then Insert Picture from File, Size it to fit to the paper and print to a Landscape sheet.

The PDF scans are to give a visual for what I'm getting when I print. I'm not actually using the image in the PDF to print from, rather making a PDF image of what is printing when I try various combinations of settings.

Try the attached file using the settings you list above.

That certainly changed it but still not the finished product I'm trying for. This put the column of text in the middle of the landscape-printed sheet. :? :/

You just have to fiddle with the settings as I set out above. My sample prints correctly on a duplex printer when the settings are right. I suggest you recheck your printer settings.

I've played with settings most of the day. :(

Is there no way to just replicate what Word was doing there?

Try with my file and the settings above. It works on my first duplex printer (Epson WP-4535). I'll try on my other one (Epson C1900) tomorrow - too late in my day here now.

I tried this today - my sample printed correctly on two duplex printers with Brochure set on Layout tab of Print dialog, and printer properties set to Landscape, binding on left side.
