Sort templates and all of it's styles out...

I am trying to organize my templates...
They're a mess and, as there are quite a few, I'm having problems trying to keep track of all the styles used and the like, since I am trying to make them all coherent with each other.
Is there a place I can documment myself about what styles are used, what are the relationships between them and where are they used? Some kind of guide to template creation inside openoffice (where are the templates shipped with openoffice discussed?) Maybe there is a master file I could inspect inside openoffice package itself?...
I know about F11 and navegating through the styles list and define them and all of that (almost all of that), but some of the styles just seem too misterous to me, I don't know what they are used for and I don't know the consequences of changing them.

Ok. I read it all, but I am still wandering...
These styles (at least some of them) seem to be, not only handy from a "design" point of view, but also necessary as openoffice itself seems to need, say, "Bibliography Heading" for it to work it's magic when generating the bibliography table. Right?
How can I document myself about that so I don't delete them when they're needed?

You can not delete any of the built-in styles.

Hum... you are right!
Let's see if I can manage not to screw everything up like I do most of the times!
