[Solved] Create New Template from Existing Document

Post by pdxlooie »

Hello,

I created a template from an existing document. When I put in fields like the document Title (from Properties sheet), instead of the value, I get strings like DocInformation:Client or DocInformation:Created, i.e. the names of the fields instead of the values. Instead of "page 1 of 6", I have "page Page Numbers of Statistics." This carries through into documents created using the template.

What causes this, and how can I fix it?

I've created templates from other documents and not had this problem. I'm using OO3. The original document was created some time ago, however, way back in the early days of OO2, probably.

Thanks.

Try hitting Ctrl+F9. That toggles the view from field names to values.

If this has answered your question please go to your first post and use the Edit button, and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can use the green tick icon at the same time if you like.

Awesomely simple. Thanks. I wonder how that got flipped for one document, and not the others?

Ah well, the mystery.

Thanks.

(a) On a Mac press Command+F9 (⌘+F9) rather than Control+F9.

(b) This is a shortcut for View > Field Names menu item. Perhaps the setting flipped when you inadvertently hit that menu item.

Please don't post links to instructions for MS Word here--Word and OOo Writer are quite different and you can't always apply instructions for one to the other. A new user could be very confused trying to translate instructions from one to the other.
