[UNO] Doc weight bigger on Debian than Ubuntu

Post by Bacteries »

Hi,
I have a script which use unoconv to convert odt file to doc or pdf.

On my local machine (Ubuntu, with OOo 3.1.1) a converted file will be 50Ko smaller than a file generated on the server (Debian, using OOo 2.4.1). I know it's not the same version but pdf file, by eg, are the same on local and server, but I have to make some changes in fonts installed on debian to have this result (before there were a 150Ko difference between local and server file). But on .doc I have alway a weight issue.

Attached the file (.doc generated on local and serveur, with a 53Ko difference)
CV_eric-cambray_-import-viadeo_local.doc
Gen on local
(55 KiB) Downloaded 353 times
CV_eric-cambray_import-viadeo.doc
Gen on server
(108.5 KiB) Downloaded 360 times
Does some already have this problem? Or know how to fix it?

Thanks.

So long as the file displays OK why does it matter? Disk drives are so large now the extra 50KB is insignificant.

I agree but the server will communicate with other services (for resumes exchange) and need .doc format only, and < 200Ko... So 50Ko make a big difference in this case.

The newer OpenOffice obviously uses a different logic for the conversion. Hopefully this means an improved logic as well, that has the side-effect (or the intent) to have a smaller Word document. I wouldn't worry about it, unless either the difference is so big it cannot be explained rationally and/or the conversion result is deteriorating with newer versions.
