Developing a spell check extension

Total newbie and likely posting in the wrong forum.

I am interested in developing a spell check extension for the Luganda language (Uganda).

Where do I begin?
I hate re-inventing the wheel. Is there a generic spell check file I can start with?

You need a dictionary, which should be Hunspell compatible. Check the Hunspell site for information.
