Opening documents in 4.1.6 MacOS

I have read and reread this subject. Many others have struggled. Newly installed. Will not open .doc, .docx, .rtf files no matter how I navigate or quick key or select the file nor any test files provided by volunteers. Nothing at all happens on the MS files and the .rtf file gets an error message, attached. I have used AOO for years and love it as a resource. I just want to view the files on my computer and then save as ODT.

Are your files on a network or remote drive?

Have you tried opening an .odt file? Can you open the .odt file linked off this post?

If an .odt file is opening correctly, but a .doc/.docx etc is not, that suggests you may need to remake File Associations to tell your computer which program to use to open such files.

You may find much useful information in
[Tutorial] Mac FAQ

I think the File Association problem is dealt with in Q33/A33

AOO is the default app. for opening these file extensions. I will read the tutorial as well.
