So - I downloaded Java. Did the Installation. Opened up Open Office preferences, went to Java, checked the Java that I'd just installed, clicked ok, restarted Open Office like it told me to, and it still won't work. What the heck am I doing wrong?

You need a 32 bit Java. This can run alongside your 64 bit Java.

I had not noticed you were using a Mac.

viewtopic.php?f=74&t=69896 explains everything.

Do yourself a favour and install https://libreoffice.org/ for Windows 64-bit. LibreOffice is the successor to OpenOffice which is almost dead by now.

Oh, sorry. I didn't notice. I know next to nothing about Mac OS. Nevertheless, I think that LibreOffice is a better choice.

I have not installed MacOS 10.14 (Mojave). The situation with Java might be different there.

That's too vague. If you need any further assistance explain in detail what you are doing and why you think OpenOffice needs Java. Tell us what happens and what you expect to happen.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.
