i have a wurd doc that i inserted fields from a .csv spreadsheet...this has worked fine in prior years, but this year i found that i got 206 letters printed from 176 lines in the ss...latest aoo4.1.6, wtf?

Thank you for the attachments. I am unable to reproduce your problem using the native ODT format instead of your "wurd doc" (DOC format). After pointing a Base document at your CSV file, I used File → Print → Form letter? → Yes which generated 176 documents, the first two of which are attached. Perhaps DOC format does not support Writer fields correctly. ODT format does.

Mail Merge requires a Base document in addition to the CSV data source you provided, and the merge will print what is in Base. You should verify that Base contains 176 records and correct that problem if not. If you're having trouble with Base, we have a separate forum for that component. Fix your forum signature which says you use the non-existant 3.1.6 version.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

I created Base document so I could access your CSV file. Then I took your bogus Word document which had no actual fields and replaced the placeholders on the second page with Mail Merge fields to the data source. Read about Mail Merge in Help → Index or in User Guides (PDF) or searching for topics about it in the Writer Forum if you don't know how to do that. My Base document had 176 records. My Mail Merge created 176 documents.

You print 206 records because your data source in Base has 206 records. This is shown clearly in your picture.
