[Solved] Insert column in spread sheet

Postby alaniansusse » Thu Aug 30, 2018 4:36 pm

I am trying to insert a column to my spread sheet. I right click or use the insert message in the menu and it says insert a column, but when I do that a message says “filled cells cannot be shifted beyond the sheet”. Need help. Thanks you. aisusser@verizon.net my open office is running the latest version 4.1.5 thank you

How many columns have you in the sheet?

Press CTRL +End. That will take you to the intersection of the last used column and last used row. You will probably find that you have content in the last column. Find it and move it or just delete that entire column if you are sure you do not need the content.
Windows 10 and Linux Mint, since 2017

The post is by a person using Mac OS. The correct shortcut may depend on the keyboard they have and on System Preferences but is likely to be ⌘End or ⌘ fn RightArrow. Help → Index → shortcut keys;spreadsheets will provide additional information about shortcuts on Mac OS.

This user has already posted the same query to the OO dev mailing list, saying that he finds the Forum too difficult. I have on the dev list informed him how to access his Forum postings.

Alan,

All your columns, all 1,024 of them, or at least the 1,024th column have something in them. Inserting a column would "push" the last column and its data off the spreadsheet.

Modify your spreadsheet so there is nothing in column AMJ and you will once again be able to insert a column or columns.
