Can't open OpenOffice

For several years I have been using Open Office until I tried to use it today. The icon was gone from my desktop (Macbook Pro). So, I downloaded a newer version and was able to create a document. After saving the document and closing Open Office, the icon was gone from my desktop. So, I went to Finder and clicked on the icon and this message comes up. “OpenOffice” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer." Consequently, I can't open Open Office again. I am using version 4.1.5 and OSX 19.9.5. HELP

This is caused by Apple Gatekeeper

You have to tell GateKeeper to trust this application and permit it to install.

I tried the suggestion of control-clicking the icon, but, that didn't work. So, in Privacy and Security I switched to allow APPS from Anywhere and was able to open it. Although it more or less says that isn't a good idea. Thanks for your valued assistance.

I have been using Openoffice on Mac since 6 years but unable to open it since last 4 days. Tried everything suggested on the posts and even updated it to version 4.1.5 but still the file refuses to open. Pls HELP

Review the other entries as well. You may find one which matches symptoms you haven't told us.
If you are opening the file using Finder, try instead launching OpenOffice and use File → Open.

Thanks for your suggestion !

Tried everything as per the tutorial, even reinstalled the app but still the same result. Still the app crashes on launch, pls suggest.
