Stuck in file recovery mode

Post by elleinad »

Hi there,

I can't open or close any of my OO files. When I try to open OO, it goes into "document recovery mode" but doesn't actually recover anything, and I have to force quit to get out of it. I would appreciate any help anyone has to offer.
I am on a 2008 macbook running OSX 10.11.6 using OO 4.1.3

The message when I try to open is as follows:
"Document recovery:
Press 'start recovery' to start the recovery process of the documents listed below.
The 'status' column shows whether your document can be recovered"

If I try to recover the files, it freezes, and if I don't, it also freezes.

thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Try first to reset your OpenOffice user profile.
If no change, see if you see a ~.lock.filename (hidden) file in the same directory than the document you are trying to open. If so, delete it.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the edit button if your issue has been fixed.

Hi Hagar,

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately neither of these methods worked, though I am able to at least open other files now, the main document I am trying to open is still in recovery mode and frozen. :(

Then I fear it's dead. See if that helps: [Tutorial] How to find and un-delete Writer temporary files

Upload the file showing the problem so that it can be analysed. Use the Upload attachment tab below where you type (128 kB max) or use a file share site for a larger file.
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.
