[Solved] Dialog Boxes are dark blue, cannot read «Q15»

All Dialog boxes in OO on Mac Sierra 10.12.1 have a dark blue fill that makes Dialog text un-readable.
How can I get rid of that colour? I read a thread about it and I unhooked all options
in OO>Preferences>View.
Nothing works, I can't even customize the toolbar.
Can someone help, please.

Are you still using 4.1.3 - perhaps you could update your signature to reflect your current situation? Having correct information helps us help you.

What thread are you referring to - so we can see what you have done?

Use the tools menu... see screenshot. You should have got some styles during installation of OpenOffice. Swap to another style.

You can paste the link to any topic - the one you refer to is viewtopic.php?f=5&t=88897

To be clear - you have tried the suggestion about Accessibility settings as well as the Icon size and style? Note that on a Mac these are under OpenOffice | Preferences not Tools | Settings

If you are new to Macs you may find [Tutorial] Mac FAQ helpful reading.

Yes, I clicked OO>Preferences>OO>View>Icon Size and Style>Industrial>OK.
See screenshot. Nothing changed.

I also downloaded OO 4.1.4
No changes in the dialog boxes still dark blue

Does this affect applications other than OpenOffice?
• If so, it's not an OpenOffice problem. I can't reproduce it and don't run OS X 10.13.1 so can't offer further advice.
• If only OpenOffice is affected see [Tutorial] Mac FAQ Q15/A15 or Q02/A02.

If you discover a solution, others and I would appreciate it if you'd explain exactly what you did to change the behavior you're experienced.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Still trying to figure out. I found:
1. Check boxes on Mac and Open Office are the same; either white text on dark blue
or white on black. (Mac>Preferences>General> Appearances > Blue to Grey).
The Action Dialog Boxes in OO: OK, Cancel, Help, Back (OO>Preferences>OO>General) background
is also changed from dark blue to black. However the Text remains black i.e. not readable.
2. Clicking outside the OO, removes the black (or dark blue) and nice black on white appears.
3. The fact that the back ground colour is changed in OO from the mac, suggested to me
that the problem is related to both OO and Mac.
4. I called Mac for help and they are adamant that it is a OO Problem. Now I'm really stuck.
5. If colours are inverted (Mac>Preferences>Accessibility>Display>Invert Colors),
the Dialog Boxes in OO are at least readable.
For now I have 2 choices: click outside or invert colors.
6. Also tried changing colors in: OO>Pref>View and >Colors and >Accessibility and >Appearance
Nothing works!

I can read the text. Background blue is darker than on my Macs, but the text is readable in your screenshot.
What year and model of Mac are you using? And make and model of monitor? What is your brightness setting?

I've attached a screenshot from my Mac. The blue background is lighter than in your screenshot.

Thank you very much for helping. I did all the things you suggested, using the same settings as your screenshot and put brightness to maximum. As my screen shots show, nothing changed. I also added a screenshot for customizing a toolbar in Calc.
I have macOS High Sierra version 10.13.1 iMac(27-inch, Mid 2011), see screen shot for further detail.
I bought this Mac about 6 weeks ago and it worked fine. Suddenly some time ago this problem came up. I hope we can get to the bottom of this. And thanks again. Detlef from Lachine Quebec.
I tried to upload the screenshots, but even the zipped version is too large. How can I post them???

Could you read the text against blue background in the dialogue box in my screenshot? As I said before, I can read the text in your screenshot. I don't think the problem originates with Apache OpenOffice.

You could try calibrating your monitor. (System Preferences/Display/Colour/Calibrate}

Could you read the text against blue background in the dialogue box in AOO when you first bought your Mac?

Reduce the size of the screenshots using Preview. (Tools/Adjust size)

Just a "me too" to show this is not a singular issue. I have tried many things but with no success, so I am following this thread, hopefully.

I have found a possible fix:-

System Prefs/Accessibility/Display/Increase Contrast - uncheck this

Finally managed to post those screenshots. The blue in your screenshot is much lighter and I can see the text, but not on mine. I agree that the problem comes from Apple, because as I explained earlier the dark blue changes to black in OO when I change from blue to grey in Apple.
Also played around with moving the white point in display /color on the mac. Nothing changed in OO. I will call Apple gain. Thanks so much. Det

Yes this will change to light blue and explains why Larry had light blue and had dark blue. This way, however, makes hard reading of other text. For now I stick with clicking outside the app.

To Tony. Did this problem come up recently? If yes it may be by an apple update.

It has existed since I started migrating from Excel to LibreOffice, about two months ago, and it is the only thing that bugged me. Finding the setting in the accessibility pref has solved the issue for me. There is also a slider in that same preferences pane that allows for a more gradual contrast change that may help you - where does the text become harder to read?

I did set to higher contrast with the slider in mac/accessibility/Display. Nothing changed in OO. As explained earlier:
1. "Mac/ Prefs/Accessibility/Display/Increase Contrast - uncheck this" makes dark
blue to light blue in OO. (Slightly better to see the text).
2. "Mac/Pref/General/Appearance/Graphite" makes dark blue (or light blue) to
black in OO. (totally un-readable)

My settings are: "Increase Contrast—unchecked", "contrast slider—all the way to the left".
Text is easily readable in both Blue & Graphite mode.
If I check "Increase Contrast" the blue is darker but I can still read the text. Same in Graphite setting.

As I said before, I can read the text in your screenshots.

I previously asked if this behaviour has changed since you bought your Mac.

Your Mac is old. The display may be fading, or the display calibration may me way off, or there is a problem with the GPU

Hurrah. It worked! Thanks so much Larry. At least I can read. (not perfect, but I can live with it)
As said previously, I just bought this computer and this blue stuff came up recently.
I mean why black on dark blue? The little hook buttons are all white on blue or white on grey. I'll talk to Apple again.

What specifically did you change to make your display more readable?

"It worked" helps no other people who experience the problem. They would be grateful if you'd explain what setting(s) made your display readable.

Problem solved, go to:
Mac>Pref.>Accessibility>Display>uncheck "Increase Contrast">"Display Contrast Slider" move all the way to the left.
Text is readable in both Blue & Graphite mode. Not perfect, white text on blue background would be much better like all the other menues. Det

Found a simple solution, using the tips above:
Go to System Preferences / General then unclick "Use dark menu bar and Dock"

I had appearance set to Blue.

I checked with Hook on and off on "Use dark mean bar and Dock".
No Change. I'm still clicking outside. Thanks for the effort anyway,
Det

Has there ever been a real solution for this problem ? Is it really true that after years of complaining by many users it is still not possible to edit the background colours of the buttons to whatever you like ? The suggestion by AD_Ward9 does not work, because there is no "Use dark menu bar and Dock" option in the system prefs of Catalina...
