OpenOffice crashing occasionally on opening

I find OpenOffice sometimes crashing on opening but cures itself on the second opening. It started before El Capitan. Can Any one help please?

On a Mac, using the Guest account is a simple way to try Open Office with a fresh profile, especially for people who have difficulty finding and deleting the correct Open Office profile. If using the Guest account doesn't cure the problem, it's saved them from having to carefully read the profile instructions for Mac. And it has also saved them from losing settings in a profile that wasn't broken. It it does solve the problem, this suggests that studying the profile tutorial will be time well spent.

No it only asks if I want to recover the file which usually works.
