Max OS 10.6.8
I cannot find a place to download 4.0.1 which is, apparently, what I need for a Mac runnin 10.6.8. The current version if for >10.7. On one computer that runs 10.7+, I have installed Apache OpenOffice. No problem. But I need to install it on this machine which must be kept with it's current, old MAC OS. Everytime I follow a link to 4.0.1 I'm led to the current version. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Did you start at the official Apache OpenOffice download page? Are you trying to download a localized (not en-US) version?
