XX.ODT does not exist

Post by winter4368 »

My file has simply dissapeared. Auto backup was not turned on. There should be an autosave somewhere but I don't see it in my library. I've read every topic about this and nothing has solved the problem. The file is listed in my recent files but its just not there. I've been working on this same file for 2 weeks and saved it every 10 minutes.

Any ideas? Im kinda screwed.

To try and recover your file, you should look in the backup and temporary directories pointed to by /Tools /Options /OpenOffice : Paths. Rename any files in those to type .odt (or whatever file type you were using) and see if they contain your data. Download Recuva or PhotoRec (only one needed) and let it do an indepth recovery of deleted files on your computer. You may get a file containing some or all of your data (or not).

Thanks I have tried that to no avail. Nothing is showing any existance of this file except in the recent files menu.
I don't suppose I'll be using this software again.

Where was it saved exactly? On your HD? In your documents area or somewhere else (like a jump drive)?

I was stored locally on my HD, and backed up on dropbox, until it disappeared from both. I was starting to think I must have accidentally deleted it, which is highly unlikely until the software produced the exact same problem with a new file.

I'm using google docs now and will delete this software from my computer. Something is wrong with it.

With very heavy use on OpenOffice I haven't lost a file in eight years. But it is your decision what software to use.

I've been using for probably 5 with no problems, but this is a detrimental one that no one can explain so its scared me away from it.
